On Wings of the Morning
March 24th, 2008 . by LisaOn Wings of the Morning by Marie Bostwick is a book about a boy, a girl, and a war. Morgan Glennon grew up without a dad, on his grandparents farm in Oklahoma and he loved to fly. This led him to enlist in the navy when WWII started. He quickly distinguished himself as an aviator and got to meet his hero, Charles Lindbergh.
Meanwhile, Georgia Carter also grew up without a father (he was married to someone else) and her mother told everyone she was her sister and not her daughter. While on an excursion with one of her mother’s numerous boyfriends she saw an airplane fly overhead and it changed her world. She became obsessed with learning to fly and even moved to a small town to work at a cafe next to an airfield. She eventually married the owner of the airfield and helped him train the new pilots that the Airforce sent their way for the war. After her husband is killed she learns about a new program for women called WASPS (Women’s Air Service Pilots) and signs up.
This is where Morgan and Georgia meet for the first time though not the last. They begin a friendship that grows as time, and the war, goes on. During this time they both wonder about God and deal with their feelings and questions about God. Morgan’s plane is shot down, and the WASPS are disbanded…can Morgan and Georgia find each other and make a relationship work? Morgan also has to deal with the discovery of his father, who doesn’t know he exists.
This was a very good read. I picked it up and didn’t put it down until I was done (which means the housework had to wait lol). It is the sequel to A Field of Gold and I plan to read the first book.
