The Hawk and the Jewel by Lori Wick is the first book in the Kensington Chronicles Series (yes I’m starting with the first book for once :)). Sunny has been raised as the favorite daughter of the ruler of an Indian country, but she knows she is from England and was rescued as a child when she and her mother were washed on the beach in a storm.

She has always been fascinated with the things of England and obtains permission from her “dad” to visit a ship from England. What she doesn’t know is that the ship she is on has come to take her back to England and to her family. What follows is a wonderful story as Sunny is introduced to her family, learns about England and learns about a new faith. She was raised with no knowledge of God and doesn’t understand about how He wants to be a part of her life.

There is also a great love story in the book, and once I started I could barely put it down. I would recommend it highly and will blog about the other books in the series as I finish them.
