What Lies Within by Karen Ball is the third book in the Family Honor series. It is a book about Kylie, the oldest who is also called Sister-Mommy because she raised her younger brother and sister after the death of her parents.

Kylie runs her own construction company that she took over when her dad died, and even though she has been successful, she has become increasingly dissatisfied with her job. While she is wondering what she can do to fix her dissatisfaction, she becomes aware of a project that she feels she is being led by God to complete. While Kylie is a Christian, she thinks that because of some things in her past that she has done means that she needs to take care of her life and her problems on her own.

During the process of the construction of the youth center, Kylie has to deal with gangs, injury to her family and an unknown enemy. She also discovers that someone she thought she could trust is plotting her failure.

What I really liked was that Kylie learned through the completion of the project to trust God for everything. She wasn’t perfect but God doesn’t require perfection. Just willingness.
